2026 FSGP YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION
For flutists ages 18-30 as of 2/28/2026
ELIGIBILITY AND RULES
1) There is no residential requirement to enter FSGP’s 2026 competitions.
2) FSGP membership is required. To enter the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia's Young Artist Competition, you must first join FSGP as an BASIC ADULT Member (regardless of age or school year). You may then log in through the website to access the entry form.
3) Young Artist Competition entrants must be age 18-30 as of February 28, 2026.
4) Undergraduate students (who meet the Young Artist Competition age eligibility requirements) may enter BOTH the Young Artist Competition and the Collegiate Artist Competition. If selected as a Finalist in both, entrant must perform in Young Artist Competition Final round ONLY.
5) The competition entry fee is $55. (This does not include the membership fee.) Entry and membership fees are non-refundable.
6) Previous First Place Winners of the Young Artist Competition are not eligible to compete again. Previous Second Place and Third Place Winners and previous winners of other divisions are eligible to compete.

TIMELINE
1) Completed Entry Form, Fee, and AUDIO RECORDINGS must all be received by 11:59pm (EST) on December 28, 2025. Recordings must be in MP3 or M4A format. (WAV files, video files, and other formats will not be accepted.)
2) Up to six (6) Finalists will be selected and notified on or before January 25, 2026.
3) The Final Round will be held in person on Friday, February 27, 2026 at the Wells School of Music, West Chester University of Pennsylvania.
NOTIFICATION OF WINNERS
First, Second, and Third Place prize winners will be notified on Friday, February 27, immediately following the Final Round performances and adjudication.
First, Second, and Third Place prize winners are required to perform at the Winners' Recital which will take place the following day (2/28/2026) at our Flute Fair. All Finalists are expected to attend the Winners' Recital.

First Place: $1000
Second Place: $600
Third Place: $400
PRELIMINARY ROUND
The Preliminary Round is an audio recorded round.
PRELIMINARY ROUND PROCEDURES
1) Files must be in MP3 or M4A Format (audio only) and uploaded with your completed online entry form on or before December 28, 2025 by 11:59pm (EST). WAV files, video files, and other file types or links will not be accepted.
2) Upload two separate audio files (one for each compulsory piece) via the Entry Form's upload port. Each uploaded piece must be one take without editing or splicing. On multi-movement pieces you may stop recording between movements. Please do not talk or identify yourself in any way on your recordings.
3) Label your audio files as follows: Your First Initial and Last Name.Division.Composer (Example: JDoe.YoungArtist.JSBach; JDoe.YoungArtist.CPEBach). To guarantee anonymous adjudication, all audio files will be renamed with a random Entrant Number before they are sent to the Preliminary Round adjudication panel.
PRELIMINARY ROUND REPERTOIRE
Choice of ONE of the following pieces for solo/unaccompanied flute:
OR
J.S. Bach - Partita in A Minor for Solo Flute (entire piece, no repeats, Bärenreiter or Henle edition)
AND
Choice of ONE of the following pieces for solo/unaccompanied flute:
L. Al-Ahmad - Two Skazkas (both I and II)
OR
V. Coleman - Danza de la Mariposa
FINAL ROUND
The Final Round is held in person at West Chester University of Pennsylvania.
FINAL ROUND PROCEDURES
1) The six finalists will perform in person for the Final Round judges on February 27, 2026 at the Wells School of Music, West Chester University of Pennsylvania.
2) Finalists will receive information about local collaborative pianists, travel, and nearby hotels upon notification of advancement. West Chester is 25 miles from Philadelphia International Airport.
3) Finalists’ and Winners' names, photos, and bios will be posted on the FSGP website and social media pages on March 1, 2026.
4) First, Second, and Third Place prize winners are required to perform at the Winners' Recital which will take place the following day at our annual Flute Fair. Please plan accordingly.
FINAL ROUND REPERTOIRE
Finalists are required to prepare BOTH of their submitted selections for solo flute from Preliminary Round. Finalists will be notified on the day of the Final Round which selection(s) they are to perform for the judges.
AND
Choice of ONE of the following pieces for flute and piano:
D. Dorff - Sonata (Three Lakes) for Flute and Piano
L. Liebermann - Sonata (Op. 23) for Flute and Piano
S. Zyman - Sonata (No. 1) for Flute and Piano
Failure to meet any of the above deadlines or requirements may result in forfeiture. All fees are non-refundable.
