YOUNG ARTIST & COLLEGIATE ARTIST COMPETITIONS
The Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia hosts two highly regarded flute competitions for serious flutists between the ages of 17 and 30.
Our Young Artist Competition is for flutists ages 18-30 (as of 2/28/2026).
Our Collegiate Artist Competition is for flutists enrolled full-time as undergraduate students at an institute of higher learning (college, university, conservatory) for the 2025-2026 academic year.
There is no residential requirement to enter FSGP’s 2026 competitions.
2026 YOUNG ARTIST & COLLEGIATE ARTIST COMPETITIONS
REPERTOIRE
Both Young Artist and Collegiate Artist competitions have the same repertoire choices for their preliminary (audio recorded) rounds.
PRELIMINARY ROUND REPERTOIRE
Choice of ONE of the following pieces for solo/unaccompanied flute:
OR
J.S. Bach - Partita in A Minor for Solo Flute (entire piece, no repeats, Bärenreiter or Henle edition)
AND
Choice of ONE of the following pieces for solo/unaccompanied flute:
L. Al-Ahmad - Two Skazkas (both I and II)
OR
V. Coleman - Danza de la Mariposa
YOUNG ARTIST FINAL ROUND REPERTOIRE
Finalists are required to prepare BOTH of their submitted selections for solo flute from Preliminary Round. Finalists will be notified on the day of the Final Round which selection(s) they are to perform for the judges.
AND
Choice of ONE of the following pieces for flute and piano:
D. Dorff - Sonata (Three Lakes) for Flute and Piano
L. Liebermann - Sonata (Op. 23) for Flute and Piano
S. Zyman - Sonata (No. 1) for Flute and Piano
COLLEGIATE ARTIST FINAL ROUND REPERTOIRE
Finalists are required to prepare BOTH of their submitted selections for solo flute from Preliminary Round. Finalists will be notified on the day of the Final Round which selection(s) they are to perform for the judges.
AND
Choice of ONE of the following pieces for flute and piano:
H. Dutilleux - Sonatine for Flute and Piano
F. Martin - Ballade for Flute and Piano
P. Sancan - Sonatine for Flute and Piano
