The FSGP 2026 Flute Fair was exceptional from beginning to end. Our Headline Guest Artist, Martha Conwell Long, with pianist Lura Johnson, delivered a beautiful recital featuring works by Mélanie Bonis, Luigi Cortese, Adolphus Hailstork, and William Grant Still. Additionally, Martha led a masterclass, providing performers with insightful analysis and guidance on a diverse selection of orchestral excerpts. The Winners’ Recital featured Young Artist and Collegiate Artist Competition First, Second, and Third Place Prize Winners beautifully performing works from their prize-winning performances by J.S. Bach, Valerie Coleman, Lowell Liebermann, Samuel Zyman, and Frank Martin. Between sessions and activities, attendees enjoyed flute choir lobby concerts featuring performances by Flutopia (directed by Renae Block), Centre Park Flutes (directed by Virginia Schulze-Johnson), The Pennsylvania Flute Choir (directed by Emily Poll), and Kutztown University Flute Choir (directed by Carol Shansky). Sessions included A Look Through Elaine Shaffer’s Archives (Roberta Goren and Cynthia McManus), The Timani Method (Christine Moulton), Getting Started with Low Flutes (Jocelyn Crosby and Francis Jacquette), and an open Flute Choir Reading Session (Renae Block and Lynne Cooksey). The last event of the day was the Flute Fair Members’ Recital, featuring performances by Anna Meyer, Jocelyn Crosby & Faith Wasson, Francis Jacquette, Cate Hummel, Matthew Angelo & Morgann Davis, and Trilovati - The Flute Ensemble of West Chester University. What a wonderful day!
