2025 YOUTH ARTIST COMPETITIONS
(For flutists ages 18 years and younger as of June 30, 2025) Students enrolled in an undergraduate program at an institute of higher education are not eligible, but may enter the collegiate competition. INFORMATION FOR ALL DIVISIONS ELIGIBILITY AND RULES 1) There is no residential requirement to enter FSGP’s 2025 competitions. 2) FSGP membership is required. To access entry forms, you must become a member. You may then log in through the FSGP website to access the entry form. 3) Students enrolled in an undergraduate program at an institute of higher education are not eligible for the Youth Artist Competitions, but may enter the Collegiate Artist Competition. 4) The Youth Artist Competitions are in three divisions based on the student’s age as of June 30, 2025:
5) The Youth Artist Competitions entry fee is $35. (This does not include the membership fee.) Please note the entry and membership fees are non-refundable. 6) Previous First Place Winners of a Youth Artist Competition are not eligible to compete again in the same age division but may compete in a higher division. Previous Second Place and Third Place Winners are eligible to compete again in the same division (subject to age eligibility). 7) First, Second, and Third place prize winners of each age division will be notified following the adjudication on May 31, and invited to perform at the Winners' Recital on Sunday, June 8, 8) Any questions should be directed to Renae Block (competition co-chair) at youth_competitions@philaflutesociety.org. TIMELINE1) ENTRY FORM and FEE must be received by Thursday 5/1/2025 11:45 p.m. EDT 2) The competition will be held in person on Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 1:00-4:00 PM at Settlement Music School, Wynnefield Branch. 3) The Winners' Recital will be held in conjunction with the FSGP's Annual Spring Members' Recital on Sunday, June 8, 2025, 2:00 PM at West Chester University. Winners are expected to perform in order to receive their awards and prize money. PIANISTS 1) Entrants are required to bring their own pianists. Pianists must be available from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on May 31. We cannot accommodate any scheduling requests. 2) Should an Entrant be selected as a First, Second, or Third Place Winner, they will be required to perform at the Competition Winners' Recital on Sunday, June 8, 2025 in the afternoon at West Chester University. Prior to entering the competition, please be sure that your pianist is available for both the competition and the winners' recital dates, or make arrangements for an alternate pianist. 3) Please arrange rehearsal(s) with your pianist prior to arriving at the competition. Entrants will only be allotted 15 minutes of on-site warm up time before their scheduled audition time. GENERAL REPERTOIRE GUIDELINES 1) Unless otherwise specified, students may perform from any edition of a work that their teacher recommends. 2) Students must perform from either an original printed edition, an approved copy of a public domain work, or be able to show proof of a purchased digital copy upon check-in at the competition (receipt or printed watermark on the music). Photocopies are not allowed for performers, except to facilitate awkward page turns. 3) All students are responsible for bringing a copy of each piece to be performed for the adjudicators - either the teacher's extra score or a photocopy that we will destroy after the auditions. As a courtesy to the adjudicators, please be sure to number all measures if not already printed in the music. SENIOR YOUTH ARTIST COMPETITION ~For flutists ages 15-18 as of June 30, 2024~ PRIZES First Place: $200 and Winner's Medal Second Place: Winner's Medal Third Place: Winner's Medal REPERTOIRE Perform two contrasting works, one from each category. JUNIOR YOUTH ARTIST COMPETITION ~For flutists ages 12-14 as of June 30, 2025~ PRIZES First Place: $150 and Winner's Medal Second Place: Winner's Medal Third Place: Winner's Medal REPERTOIRE Perform two contrasting works, one from each category. The maximum performance time for this age category is 12 minutes. Select ONE of the following Baroque-to-Classical works, to be performed as indicated (with piano):
