2022 FSGP YOUTH ARTIST COMPETITIONS

(For flutists ages 18 years and younger as of March 5, 2022)

*students enrolled in an undergraduate program at an institute of higher education are not eligible, but may enter the collegiate competition*

Video Recording Requirements


VIDEO RECORDING REQUIREMENTS AND SUBMISSION

VIDEO RECORDING SUBMISSION must be a COMPLETE (unedited) single-camera video performance of your FULL program (multiple-camera videos will not be considered), and submitted on or before the competition deadline:  February 5, 2022 by 9:00pm (EST)

** IMPORTANT NOTE: ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE A SINGLE TAKE OF YOUR FULL PROGRAM (you may not stop the camera or combine separate takes to make up one video).** Acceptable formats include: MP4, MOV or AVI.

Most videos are too large to send directly via email, so you will need to upload them to your preferred cloud storage and email the link to ddorff@danieldorff.comYou must complete the competition application BEFORE sending the link to your audio files.

2022 Senior Youth Artist Competition

SENIOR YOUTH ARTIST COMPETITION

~For flutists ages 15-18 as of March 5, 2022~

PRIZES

First Place: $200 and Award Certificate

Second Place: Award Certificate

Third Place: Award Certificate


REPERTOIRE

Entrants in the SENIOR YOUTH ARTIST COMPETITION must perform TWO contrasting pieces composed/written for solo (unaccompanied) flute OR flute and piano. Music composed for flute and piano must be performed with piano accompaniment.



(SELECT MOVEMENTS MAY BE PERFORMED FROM MULTI-MOVEMENT PIECES / SINGLE MOVEMENT PIECES MUST BE PERFORMED IN THEIR ENTIRETY)


-One piece (or movement from a piece) must be selected from the Renaissance, Baroque, or Classical Eras (composed ON or BEFORE 1820) AND composed/written for solo (unaccompanied) flute or flute and piano

-One piece (or movement from a piece) must be selected from the Romantic, Modern, or Contemporary Eras (composed ON or AFTER 1820) AND composed/written for solo (unaccompanied) flute or flute and piano


Entrants should select contrasting pieces that offer a demonstration of both technical skill and lyrical abilities.


Total Time Limit: 16 Minutes

2022 Junior Youth Artist Competition

JUNIOR YOUTH ARTIST COMPETITION 

~For flutists ages 11-14 as of March 5, 2022~

PRIZES

First Place: $150 and Award Certificate

Second Place: Award Certificate

Third Place: Award Certificate


REPERTOIRE

Entrants must perform  TWO contrasting pieces composed/written for solo (unaccompanied) flute OR flute and piano. Music composed for flute and piano must be performed with piano accompaniment.

~For flutists up to age 11* as of March 5, 2022~

(*Note: flutists who turn 11 on or before March 5, 2022 must enter the Junior High Youth Artist Competition)

First Place: $100 and Award Certificate

Second Place: Award Certificate

Third Place: Award Certificate

YOUTH ARTISTS COMPETITION GUIDELINES AND REGULATIONS

FEES / ELIGIBILITY / REQUIREMENTS / OBLIGATIONS

DEADLINES  /  VIDEO RECORDING SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • COMPETITION ENTRY DEADLINE:  February 5, 2022 by 9:00pm (EST)
  • VIDEO SUBMISSION must be a COMPLETE (unedited) single-camera video performance of Entrant's  FULL program (multiple camera videos will not be considered) and submitted by the competition deadline.  Acceptable video formats include MP4, MOV, and AVI.  For identification purposes, your file name should include your first and last name, as well as the name of the division you are entering  (example: "CindyBrozSenior" "CindyBrozJunior" "CindyBrozElementary"). Video files will be renamed by number for the purpose of anonymity prior to being sent to the adjudication panel. Entrants are required to submit the video file on or before  February 5, 2022 by 9:00pm (EST).  Video Performances not received by the deadline (or those  not in the proper format) will not be considered.** IMPORTANT NOTE: ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE A SINGLE TAKE OF YOUR FULL PROGRAM (you may not stop the camera or combine separate takes to make up one video).**
  • In creating your video recording, please do not identify yourself. Though you are not performing "in person," please consider this a recital performance.
  • Most videos are too large to send directly via email, so you will need to upload them to your preferred cloud storage and email the link to ddorff@danieldorff.com. You must complete the competition application BEFORE sending the link to your audio files. 
  • Recorded Video Performances are only viewable to the adjudication panel, competition chair, and proctor(s).  Do not post any audio or video performances for these competitions on any social media platform. 
  • With permission (required from a parent or guardian), winners' names and teachers' names will be posted on the FSGP website and social media pages on March 5, 2022.
