 with Joan Sparks and Daniel Dorff


 


Joan and Daniel will teach the concepts from their collaborative "24 Melodic Warm-Ups" through coaching participants as they play each excerpt or movement. Five students will have 10 minutes each to play an exercise of their choice. If playing is finished early, there will be time for Q and A.

with Timothy Hagen




The" How-to-Master" Class, an interactive workshop led by flutist and composer Timothy Hagen, capitalizes on a decade of researching and applying key concepts in the psychology and neuroscience of learning, as detailed in his book, The Scientific Method of Practicing. Dr. Hagen has led this class at universities, conservatories, and festivals throughout the United States, and his book has become part of the curriculum in top-tier music programs, including the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, The University of Texas at Austin, and DePaul University. Bring your instrument, and don't miss this opportunity to focus on the ultimate skill: how to teach yourself.

Body Mapping and weight shifting movement will guide you to practice and perform with poise and ease, even under pressure. Learn weight-shifting patterns from the ground that are an easy addition to practicing and set the stage for poised playing choreography, supporting your musical intentions.

Join flute repair specialist Rachael Simon to learn more about how your flute works, how to take care of it, how to troubleshoot common problems, and how to prevent them from occurring in the first place! This online presentation will include detailed video demonstrations, live Q and A, and resources for further learning. Helpful and empowering information for any flutist!
