Introduction to Klezmer Flute with Adrianne Greenbaum
Adrianne Greenbaum (Powell Performing Artist and Professor of Music at Mount Holyoke College) will be our guide to learning about Klezmer history and application of characteristic ornamentation and style while we experience beauty through sight and sound.
Adrianne’s narrated concert will provide the Zoom audience with historic details of both the presence of the flute in the early klezmer ensembles and its eventual decline resulting in total absence. She will perform tunes composed or informed by the early klezmer flutists, her own tunes composed in the her two decades of being a klezmer, as well as a peek back in time into what Adrianne considers to be Gypsy Baroque, the earlier sounds of the klezmer band that existed as far back as the early 18th c.
She will perform on Boehm system (her wood Powell) and simple system flutes that include traverso and a multi-keyed early 20th flute.
