Ellen Fisher-Deerberg, flutist, has cultivated a long and multifaceted career as a musician in the New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania region. Originally from Wilmington, Delaware, Ellen was on the faculty at the Music School of Delaware, Bryn Mawr Conservatory of Music, and the Darlington Arts Center, and also maintained her own private studio. As a founding member of the “radiant and distinctive” flute quartet, The Lyra Ensemble, Ellen has collaboratively presented master classes at Penn State, West Chester University, Frostburg State University, and Onondaga Community College. Mrs. Deerberg has been on the faculty of the Westminster Conservatory of Music since 2005, where she frequently performs in faculty recitals that encompass a wide variety of musical styles and genres.
Ellen is the Principal Flutist of the Bravura Philharmonic, serves on their board of directors, and is the executive director of their annual Young Artists Concerto competition. Mrs. Deerberg has also appeared with the Bay Atlantic Symphony and the Kennett Symphony, playing both principal flute and piccolo. An accomplished chamber music artist, Ellen has frequently performed with several flute quartets (The Lyra Ensemble, Volanti Flutes, and Flutes de Salon) being selected to perform at annual events presented by the National Flute Association, New York Flute Club, New Jersey Flute Society, and the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia. As a collaborative recording artist, Mrs. Deerberg can be heard on the critically acclaimed CD “Pictures at an African Exhibition” with saxophonist Darryl Yokley’s Sound Reformation, and on “The Colors Fall” with flutist Lisamarie McGrath (now Windwalker).
Ellen has performed with ensembles encompassing a multitude of different and unique instrumental combinations, including classical guitar, harp, saxophone, percussion, native American flutes, and guzheng. Ellen is a graduate of Temple University’s Boyer College of Music where she studied with former principal flutist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Murray Panitz.
