2024 YOUTH ARTIST COMPETITIONS


(For flutists ages 18 years and younger as of June 30, 2024)

 Students enrolled in an undergraduate program at an institute of higher education are not eligible, but may enter the collegiate competition. 

ELIGIBILITY AND RULES

1) There is no residential requirement to enter FSGP’s 2024 competitions.

2) FSGP membership is required. To access entry forms, you must become a member. You may then log in through the FSGP website to access the entry form.

3) Students enrolled in an undergraduate program at an institute of higher education are not eligible for the Youth Artist Competitions, but may enter the Collegiate Artist Competition.

4) The Youth Artist Competitions are in three divisions based on the student’s age as of June 30, 2024:

- Senior Youth Artist (ages 15-18)

- Junior Youth Artist (ages 12-14)

- Elementary Youth Artist (ages 11 and younger)

5) The Youth Artist Competitions entry fee is $30. (This does not include the membership fee.) Please note the entry and membership fees are non-refundable.

6) Previous First Place Winners of a Youth Artist Competition are not eligible to compete again in the same age division but may compete in a higher division. Previous Second Place and Third Place Winners are eligible to compete again in the same division (subject to age eligibility).

7) First, Second, and Third place prize winners of each age division will be notified following the adjudication on April 21, 2024 and invited to perform at the Winners' Recital later the same day.

TIMELINE

1) ENTRY FORM and FEE must be received by 9:00pm (EST) on March 29, 2024.

2) The competition will be held in person on Sunday April 21, 2024 at the Community Music School in Trappe, PA at 2:00pm (EST).

PIANISTS

1) Entrants are required to bring their own pianists. Pianists must be available from 2pm to  on April 21, 2024. We cannot accommodate any scheduling requests.

2) Should an Entrant be selected as a First, Second, or Third Place Winner, they will be invited to perform at the Competition Winners' Recital (to be held on 4/21/2024 from 4:30pm to 5:45pm). All entrants are required to attend the recital. If a student is not selected as a winner, their pianist may leave following the adjudication.

3) If your pianist is unable to return to perform with you, please let us know as soon as possible.


SENIOR YOUTH ARTIST COMPETITION

~For flutists ages 15-18 as of June 30, 2024~

First Place: $200 and Winner's Medal

Second Place: Winner's Medal

Third Place: Winner's Medal


REPERTOIRE

Choose ONE of the following Romantic-to-Modern works performed in its entirety (with piano):

  • H. Büsser - Prélude et Scherzo [any edition]
  • C. Chaminade - Concertino [any edition]
  • B. Martinu - First Sonata: Mvt. I. Allegro moderato [Edition: Associated Music Publishers]
  • G. Schocker - Airborne [Theodore Presser]

and

Choose ONE of the following Baroque-to-Classical works performed in its entirety (with piano):

  • C.P.E. Bach - Sonata in G Major “Hamburger” [Edition: Schott]
  • J.S. Bach - Sonata in E Major (BWV 1035): Mvts. I. Adagio ma non tanto and IV. Allegro assai (no repeats) [Edition: Bärenreiter or Henle]
  • W.A. Mozart - Concerto in D Major (K. 314): Mvt. I. Allegro aperto with cadenza of choice [Edition: Bärenreiter or Henle]
  • C. Stamitz - Concerto in G Major (Op. 29): Mvt. I. Allegro with cadenza of choice (no repeats) [any edition]



JUNIOR YOUTH ARTIST COMPETITION 

~For flutists ages 12-14 as of June 30, 2024~

PRIZE

First Place: $150 and Winner's Medal

Second Place: Winner's Medal

Third Place: Winner's Medal


REPERTOIRE

Choose ONE of the following Romantic-to-Modern works performed in its entirety (with piano):

  • E. Bloch - Suite Modale: Mvts. I. Moderato and III. Allegro giocoso [Edition: Broude Brothers]
  • B. Godard - Idylle (Op. 116) [any edition]
  • E. Köhler - Rêverie Poetique (Op. 49) [any edition]
  • W. Popp - Nightingale Serenade [Theodore Presser]
and

Choose ONE of the following Baroque-to-Classical works performed in its entirety (with piano):

  • J.S. Bach - Suite in B Minor: Polonaise (with repeats and DC; no repeats during the DC) [any edition]
  • B. Marcello - Sonata in F Major: Mvts. III. Largo and IV. Allegro (Mvt. III. Largo - with repeats / Mvt. IV. Allegro - no repeats) [any edition]
  • J. Pepusch - Sonata in F Major: Mvts. I. Adagio and II. Allegro [any edition]
  • G. Platti - Sonata No. 2 in G Major: Mvts. I. Grave and II. Allegro (no repeats) [any edition]



ELEMENTARY YOUTH ARTIST COMPETITION

~For flutists ages 11 and under as of June 30, 2024~

First Place: $100 and Winner's Medal

Entrants (along with parents/legal guardians and pianist) do not need to pay additional Flute Fair admission fees. Teachers ARE required to pay Flute Fair admission fees.
