2023 Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia Competitions!


There is no residency requirement to enter the competitions.  However, your membership with the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia must be current to access the entry forms. These forms will become available to members in the coming months. Please renew or join the Flute Society here






2023 COMPETITION REPERTOIRE

This season's competitions return to live performances at West Chester University, as part of the March 4, 2023 Flute Fair. 
 

YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION
Entrants must be age 18-30 as of March 4, 2023.

ENTRY DEADLINE
Entry form, fee, and Preliminary Round Audio Recordings must be received by 9:00pm (EST) on December 18, 2022.

REPERTOIRE (PRELIMINARY RECORDED ROUND)

E. Bozza — IMAGE for solo Flute  [Leduc]

and

C.P.E. Bach — SONATA IN A MINOR for solo Flute, Mvt. 1, Adagio [any edition]

Up to Six (6) entrants will advance to the Final Round to perform live at the Wells School of Music, West Chester University of PA, on Friday March 3, 2023.

REPERTOIRE (FINAL ROUND)

C.P.E. Bach — SONATA IN A MINOR for solo Flute, Mvt. 1, Adagio [any edition]

and

Finalist's choice of ONE of the following pieces performed in its entirety (with piano):

  • P. Gaubert – SONATA NO. 3 for flute and piano [Heugel/Leduc edition]
  • R. Muczynski – SONATA for flute and piano [G. Schirmer]
  • C-M. Widor – SUITE for flute and piano [any edition]
  • S. Zyman – SONATA NO. 1 for flute and piano [Presser] 

COLLEGIATE ARTIST COMPETITION
Entrants must be enrolled in an undergraduate program at an institute of higher education for the complete 2022-2023 school year.

ENTRY DEADLINE
Entry form, fee, and Preliminary Round Audio Recordings must be received by 9:00pm (EST) on December 18, 2022.

J. Boismortier — SUITE IN E MINOR for Flute solo, Op. 35, No. 1 from Six Suites for Flute solo [Schott edition]:

IMPORTANT NOTE: This edition is for solo Flute ONLY.  Preliminary Round Audio Recordings MUST be flute alone (without accompaniment).

Junior Youth Artist Entrants must be age 12-14 as of March 4, 2023.
Elementary Youth Artist Entrants must be age 11 or under as of March 4, 2023.

ENTRY DEADLINE
Entry form and fee must be received by 9:00pm (EST) on February 12, 2023.
The competition will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at the Wells School of Music, West Chester University of PA.

SENIOR YOUTH ARTIST REPERTOIRE
Choose ONE of the following Romantic-to-Modern works performed in its entirety (with piano):

  • Fauré  FANTAISIE [any edition]
  • Reinecke  BALLADE, Op. 288 [Zimmermann edition]
  • Casella  BARCAROLLE ET SCHERZO [any edition]

and

Choose ONE of the following Baroque-to-Classical works performed in its entirety (with piano):

  • J.S. Bach  SONATA IN E MINOR, BWV 1034,
    Mvt. 1 (Adagio ma non tanto) and Mvt. 2 (Allegro, no repeats) [Bärenreiter or Henle edition]
  • J-M. Leclair  SONATA IN E MINOR, Op. 2, No. 1: Largo, Allegro (including Altro), no repeats [Zimmermann edition]
  • F. Devienne  SONATA NO. 1 IN E MINOR, Mvt. 1 (Allegro) and Mvt. 2 (Adagio, no repeats) [any edition]
