2022 YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION



(For flutists ages 18-30 as of March 5, 2022)


SUBMISSION DEADLINES

PRELIMINARY AUDIO RECORDED ROUND:  January 8, 2022 by 9:00pm (EST)

FINAL VIDEO RECORDED ROUND:  February 12, 2022 by 9:00pm (EST)

Undergraduate students who enter the Young Artist Competition but do not advance to the Final Video Recorded Round may enter the Collegiate Artist Competition *free of charge* (provided they meet all eligibility requirements).

There is no residential requirement to enter FSGP’s 2022 competitions. FSGP membership is required. To access entry forms, you must first become a member and create an account  (join here). You may then log in through the website to access and complete the entry form for the competition division you wish to enter

PRELIMINARY AUDIO RECORDING SUBMISSION

PRELIMINARY AUDIO RECORDED ROUND submissions must be in MP3 or M4A Format (audio only) and uploaded with your completed online entry form on or before January 8, 2022 by 9:00pm (EST).

FINAL ROUND

FINAL ROUND VIDEO RECORDING SUBMISSION

FINAL ROUND VIDEO RECORDING must be a COMPLETE (unedited) single-camera video performance of your FULL program (multiple-camera videos will not be considered). 

Final Round Video Recording must be submitted on or before February 12, 2022 by 9:00pm (EST). 

Accepted formats include MP4, MOV, and AVI.  For identification purposes, your file name should include your first and last name, as well as the name of the division - "YoungArtist"  (example: "CindyBrozYoungArtist"). Video files will be renamed by number for the purpose of anonymity prior to being sent to the adjudication panel. Please upload the file to a cloud server such as Google Drive or iCloud. Do not send Youtube links. 

 ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE A SINGLE TAKE OF YOUR FULL PROGRAM (you may not stop the camera or combine separate takes to make up one video).

  • Carter Pann - Giantess for Flute and Piano (Winner - 2019 NFA Newly Published Music Competition: Flute and Piano)

COMPETITION GUIDELINES AND REGULATIONS

GENERAL

FEES / ELIGIBILITY / REQUIREMENTS / OBLIGATIONS

  • Competition Entry Fee is $55 (does not include FSGP Membership Fee).

  • All fees (Entry and Membership) are non-refundable.

  • The FSGP Young Artist Competition is open to flutists ages 18-30 (as of March 5, 2022). 

  • There is no residential requirement.

  • FSGP Membership is required for all competition entrants. Before you can register, you must first become an FSGP member and create an account.

  • First Place Winners of the FSGP Young Artist Competition from previous years are not eligible.

  • Winners will be notified by February 21, 2022 and offered the option to perform live at the Flute Fair's Winners' Recital. If winners opt not to perform in person, or if the Flute Fair is moved to a virtual format, their Final Round recording will be played in the Winners' Recital.

PRELIMINARY AUDIO RECORDED ROUND

REGISTRATION / DEADLINES / AUDIO RECORDING SUBMISSIONS

  • Complete the online entry form on or before January 8, 2022 by 9:00pm (EST).
  • Upload Preliminary Round audio recordings with completed online entry form on or before January 8, 2022 by 9:00pm (EST).
  • Please observe and comply with the following instructions in creating and uploading your recordings:
  • Preliminary Recorded Round submissions must be in MP3 or M4A format and uploaded with your entry application.  
    1. Identify your audio recordings in the following manner: Entrant's first initial and last name followed by the composer’s last name and movement title (example:  CBroz.BachAllemande; CBroz.HailstorkYuhwa; CBroz.PannGiantess).

    2. It is the entrant's responsibility to adjust format so each movement from their respective compulsory pieces can be uploaded as MP3 or M4A Audio Files. Please note: WAV files, video files, and files uploaded via cloud links (such as GoogleDrive, Box, Dropbox, etc. will not be accepted). 

    3. Recordings must be complete and unedited. Please do not talk or identify yourself in any way on your submitted recordings.

    All recorded files will be coded for anonymity before being submitted to the Preliminary Audio Recorded Round adjudication panel. This panel is made up of five professional flutists. Each judge will listen independently to the entrants' audio recordings and determine a numeric score value (0-10) for each piece. The scores from all five judges are then averaged together with the top six entrants advancing to the final round.

    FINAL VIDEO RECORDED ROUND
    NOTIFICATIONS / DEADLINES / FINAL VIDEO ROUND SUBMISSIONS
    • Finalists will be notified on or before January 17, 2022.
    • Final Round Video Recording must be submitted on or before February 12, 2022 by 9:00pm (EST).

    • The Final Round Video performances are only viewable to the adjudication panel and competition chair.  Do not announce your finalist status or post any portion of your competition audio/video performances on any social media platform. 
    • Finalists’ and Winners' names, photos, and bios will be posted on the FSGP website and social media pages on March 5, 2022. Videos (or portions of videos) may be used for the Winners' Recital.

    Failure to meet any of the above deadlines or requirements may result in forfeiture.
